Pie in the Sky

You read the news and it ruins your day. Today was no exception.
The Democrats set withdrawal date for Iraq troops fall of 2008. That isn’t a compromise it’s capitulation. They are pledging to fund Bush’s incompetent war crime for another year and a half? At 2.61 deaths per day, this is going to continue till next fall?
We are going to have to read about wounded soldiers being forced out of their beds and sent back to Iraq till fall of next year?
God give me strength.

Not to be outdone by the moral laxity of the Democrats, Bush has promised to veto the bill containing withdrawal plans. By September 2008, he’ll be packing his bags for Crawford or his new ranch in Paraguay, so what’s the point. Bush’s presidential legacy is the Iraq quagmire?

Then there’s the issue of trust. If you believe a politicians word about something they are going to do in 18 months, you are the most gullible person on the planet and your inevitable disappointment is well deserved. Anything less than immediate withdrawal is pie in the sky; a pitiful sop for the restless masses who have an aversion to paying for and dying in other people’s war crimes. The army has a plan for everything, including withdrawal. It should have been done four years ago. It should start tomorrow.

Bush promised us that it would be up to another president to end the war in Iraq. The Does that mean the Democrats idea of leadership is to follow an idiot president who amuses himself by doing an imitation of Attila the Hun?
The presidential hopefuls are no better. The leading candidates say they will limit troop numbers. They prattle on, unaware that they are not making any sense. Is it less of a war crime if you use fewer soldiers? Since there is no legitimate reason for them to be there, what exactly will they be doing? How do future presidents propose the less numerous soldiers stay alive? Where so they think the money going to come from?

The shocking immorality of the position of our political leaders leaves one breathless. Their flawed logic makes me frightened of going to bed at night. Who knows what will have been up to while we slept.
Something in the environment of our nation’s capitol rots the soul and destroys the moral compass. I suggest we pave it over and start again in say, Fargo, North Dakota?
The harsh climate and the spare landscape might encourage a better class of people to enter government service. After the HAZMAT people finish the clean up, we can build a nice park on the banks of the Potomac. You know, for the kids.
