Censure? Hell No!

Seven months into the new Democratic Congress, the Democrats are feeling the heat. Their ratings have plummeted as voters awaken to their betrayal.

The Democrat’s response to a furious electorate has been as disappointing as their performance. Instead of addressing the concerns of the electorate, they have chosen whiny excuses and counterfeit legislation.

They have been scrupulous in avoiding any real confrontation with the Bush administration, even to the point of sanctioning war crimes, perjury and contempt of congress.

Nancy Pelosi told Bush that the days of the blank check for his little war crime in Iraq are over. That was for the rubes.

Days later, Ms. Pelosi handed Bush the checkbook and the pen. She and Reid have continued to satisfy Bush’s every whim, no matter what the cost and no matter how destructive the outcome.

The Democrats have made amateurish attempts to spin their total capitulation. They just don’t have the style and panache of the White House mafia, so no one buys it. Their next line of defense is the sop.

To pacify outraged voters, they promised to “revisit” funding Bush’s little war crime in Iraq. They haven’t and they don’t need to. They generously handed Bush enough cash to take him through to the end of his presidency with a bit on the side in case he wants to bomb Iran without asking Congress.

More recently, Pelosi and Reid’s deficient leadership skills permitted the destruction of FISA and the ragged remains of the 4th Amendment, the prohibition against unreasonable search and seizure. Attorney and Constitutional expert Bruce Fein calls the FISA “reform” bill, the worst piece of legislation since the internment of the Japanese during WWII.
Hours after the bill was passed, Pelosi called for an examination of the legislation and expressed concerns about its legality.
One may well ask why the Speaker of the House let legislation come to the floor that is legally questionable and why she was unable to make the case to the Democratic majority.

The most interesting of the Democrat’s sops are around the issue of impeachment. When their poorly crafted excuses were rapidly debunked, they tried getting tough. “It ain’t gonna’ happen” was the Democrat’s mantra. No one believed them and calls for impeachment increased exponentially.

Next they tried throwing Alberto Gonzales under the bus. A faux impeachment resolution filed by Jay Inslee against Gonzales was a big yawn.
The latest ploy is the non-binding censure resolution against Bush, Cheney and Gonzales to be brought forward in both the House and the Senate.

Censure is defined as strong opposition. So how would that read? You lied about the need to go to war causing the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and maiming many more. You have put the nation at risk by inciting hatred and undermined our intelligence agencies. You have destroyed our military preparedness and enabled war profiteering. You are a very naughty boy, but mommy and I still love you?

Impeachment, on the other hand involves investigations, trials, formal charges and tribunals. When our president and vice president abuse their power, commit crimes and malfeasance, should we even be having a discussion about whether or not to apply the appropriate legal remedy?

The Constitution says that elected officials upon the commission of high crimes or misdemeanors SHALL be impeached. It doesn’t say word one about censure. No one cares about censure. Especially Bush, Cheney and Gonzales. They care about power.

As long as Congress refuses to act, Bush, Cheney and Gonzales have more power than anyone in a representative Democracy should ever have.

IMPEACH!
