Obstructing Justice

The prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is bearing some bitter fruit. The weak minded press and White House shills are trying to normalize the illegal and the build consensus for the unthinkable.

A few evenings ago, AP news announced that three “terrorists” killed themselves at the US Prison at Guantanamo.

How did AP decide they were terrorists? Probably from the White House talking points they were emailed.

The fact is there has been no legal process, no discovery, no indictments and no evidence presented that proves they were engaged in terrorist activities. Has AP appointed itself an international judge and jury or were they just trying to hide the ugly underbelly of the “ New American Century”?

Just exactly what act of terrorism did they commit?

None of the accusations have been proven. There is no evidence that anyone was injured or that anyone died. No evidence of property damage.

Zarqawi got more publicity than Paris Hilton when he was raising hell in Iraq.
We can safely guess that if these prisoners had committed acts of terrorism, it would be headline news all over the planet and AP (Always Partisan) would be leading the pack

Who are these people and how did they end up as prisoners in one of America’s Gulags?

Many of the prisoners were swept up in combat zones, were handed over by bounty hunters or turned over to the Americans as a way of settling old feuds. Some were children. They are low level operatives and tribesmen who were incarcerated without any legal process. They were abused and tortured until three of them finally succeeded in taking their own lives.

Suicide attempts and hunger strikes have been going on since Guantanamo first opened its cages. Abuse and torture have been alleged, documented and proven by international human rights groups and by those that were released. Former inmates are mounting law suits against the US government. It remains to be seen if the “national security” ploy that Nixon used and Bush uses to hide dirty fingerprints, will prevail.

Members of the international community and the UN have demanded Bush close Guantanamo. It is not surprising that their complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

People who make up whole new categories of human beings in order to justify their sadistic urges are not likely to pay attention to niceties like requests.

There is no classification of prisoners without human rights for George and his friends to experiment with. The Geneva Conventions state that every prisoner is entitled to the rights outlined in the Conventions of which the US is a signatory and Congress has ratified.

A single man, who has frequently been described as lacking intellectual capacity, isolated from reality and whose every undertaking has ended in failure has made himself judge, jury and executioner. Too cowardly to serve in wartime himself, he commands his minions to abuse tortue those that cannot fight back.

There is no legal precedent or credible legal justification for nullifying anyone’s human rights.

Bush, Gonzales and Rumsfeld have violated the Geneva Conventions on which international law rests on the shakiest of pretexts. They have clearly violated existing US and international law.
It seems to me that it would more accurate to classify George and the fossilized cold warriors around him as illegal combatants.

Bush justifies his illegal and immoral actions as part of the war on terrorism, utterly failing to comprehend that he has completely surrendered the morale high ground to the terrorists.

He wants us to believe that he is defending America by focusing on sadistic rituals instead of securing our ports and our chemical and nuclear plants.
Torture is not only illegal and morally reprehensible, it produces bad information that is not accepted in any reputable court of law.

Has terrorism been defeated or even weakened since Bush and Rumsfeld started water boarding and beating people to death? Nope. Terrorist attacks worldwide have increased dramatically since GW started doing the unthinkable to the unnamed.

It's not surprising Bush doesn’t want Donald Rumsfeld to resign.
Who else could he get to carry out his defeatist policies of senseless brutality. Who else has the hubris to think they will never end up in front of a war crimes tribunal.

I find misplaced power, overt sadism, monumental arrogance and willful ignorance far more terrifying than any angry middle easterner. This sort of extremism has been lethal to every society that has countenanced it.
Terrorists can damage infrastructure and kill a limited number of people. Tyranny and lawlessness can bring down entire nations.

I don’t believe most Americans would tolerate these policies if they understood them. I don't think they would support their continuance if, God forbid, they witnessed the results.

As long as we have pantywaist news organizations covering up for high-level criminality and acting as an ad hoc Justice Departments, too many Americans will remain mis-informed. Too many will tolerate the horror that has become the US war on terrorism.

Under Bushrule, America has gone from a top defender of human rights to a top offender of human rights. We are foolish and naïve to think that this is only happening over there.
Once injustice is tolerated in any form, it never stays “over there”.

You absolutely should believe that it can and will happen over here to and to some of us. It will unless the lawlessness and cruelty of our leaders is challenged. It will happen unless they are stopped and their mendacious echo chamber dismantled.

This is not a war of competing civilizations. It is a war against civilization.
