Blowing Smoke for the Bush Junta
There is ample evidence that corporate media have acted as a willing instrument in legitimizing a power grab by a small group of radical extremists who care nothing about the people of this country or the fate of the nation. The press act to shield them from scrutiny and accountability. In a time of profound crisis, the media strive mightily to create an atmosphere of normalcy.
There is overwhelming evidence voters did not elect this president in 2000 or in 2004. Between gerrymandering, disenfranchisement and unsafe voting and scanning machines, we cannot be certain that we elected our members of congress, either. Yet the media refuse to cover the theft of representative democracy except to mendaciously undermine the facts.
Despite the ’06 election giving the Democrats control of congress, our long nightmare is not over. Almost all the Democrats are still playing fetch and carry for the president. More evidence is being uncovered everyday of the illegal use of the executive branch of government to keep the corrupt, extremist GOP permanently in power. Major news sources are burying the story as well.
This past week former CIA director George Tenet began belatedly spilling his guts out in a “memoir”. I think it's only reasonable to be skeptical of a man who would not the speak the truth when he was serving his country even though failure to do so had catastrophic results. That however, does not explain why the press are printing verbatim denials from the White House by proven liars without any qualification or factual evidence that they are doing anything but protecting their sorry asses.
Are the Iraqi’s split on US withdrawal timetable? Last week’s headlines said so.
If there is one thing the Iraqi people have always been united upon, it is that we leave their country ASAP. Our corrupt puppet government in Baghdad may not be so eager for US troops to withdraw, especially after giving away the profits for Iraqi oil to the invaders, but that hardly constitutes a divided nation.
Creating non-existent dissent that blur the facts and supports the disastrous policies of the Bush administration are what the mainstream media are in business for.
Bush’s friends, the Saudis, claim to have arrested 172 “terrorists”. How do we know they were terrorists? Saudi Arabia is not a democracy. The press is controlled. Their system of justice is as medieval as their system of government. They are alleged to be suicide pilots harboring evil plans to destroy Saudi oil infrastructure. It's my understanding that since the Saudi’s buy our aircraft, we train their pilots including those that flew into the Twin Towers. Given current political conditions, those arrested might well be insurgents. We have no way of knowing exactly what happened. Keeping terrorism on the front page and engendering fear of attack or sticker shock at the pump is the job of the corporate media.
On any given day you can pick out a half a dozen stories that deliberately misrepresent reality, reshape it or are intended to strike fear in the hearts of Americans. These stories are not meant to inform and they don’t represent conflicting opinions. They are meant to obfuscate, confuse and disable an increasingly troubled and angry populace.
They are meant to help you forget that you no longer elect your leaders and that the self appointed government serves only itself.
The message is that the world too confusing for you to understand so you must leave it to others.
You are supposed think that the world is so perilous a place that only complete control of your person and your thoughts by the government will keep you safe.
The message is that power does not reside in you but in others.
