Democrats Throw Away the Winning Hand... Again
After the November election, the Democrats had the wind at their backs. The electorate disregarded the manufactured reality of the corporate media. They overwhelmed the GOP controlled election system and Democrats control of both Houses of Congress. If the Democrats played their cards right, they could put an end to the senseless bloodshed in Iraq and hold the Bush White House’s feet to the fire.
Who could have believed that six months later the country would still headed down the same demented path and that Bush and Cheney would still be using the Constitution for toilet paper. Who could have imagined that the Democrats would turn their backs on voters and become the Party of more-of-the same.
Instead of impeaching Bush and Cheney for their many crimes and dangerous betrayals, they are negotiating with them.
Instead of shutting down the Bush’s failed war crime in Iraq, they are expected to fully fund a foolhardy escalation. They are failing to restrain the White House from an attack on another nation that poses no danger to us.
Instead of helping seniors buy life-sustaining medications at competitive prices, Democrats are helping to line the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies.
Instead of standing up for American Workers, the Democrats are in secret negotiations with the GOP for more industry written trade agreements that screw American workers and do absolutely nothing to improve the lives of workers in developing nations.
Instead of strong-arming the GOP to line up behind them and leading the country out of darkness, the Democrats are using their muscle to prevent members of their own party from doing what is right and decent.
The neo-cons had to invent the language of deception and misrule. They had to shove it down the public’s throat in order to get anyone to vote for them. It is their only talent.
The Democrats, on the other hand, didn’t need to do a thing but walk the talk.
They have the full weight of justice, truth, the US Constitution and the American people behind them. They just couldn’t do it.
Democrats tell us they have a strategy but we know it isn’t a winning strategy. You don’t give the 70% of Americans who want troops home the finger and then ask them to vote for you. You don’t kick American workers down the stairs and then expect them to support you. You don’t prevent Americans from getting the drugs they need and expect them to be grateful. You don’t let Bush and Cheney walk and expect to be the next president.
Criticize a Democrat and they will tell you that we need to stick together. Party unity will win the day. A Democratic Mafia in place of Republican mafia isn’t my definition of winning. We’re not the ones destroying Party unity, they are.
I don’t why Democratic leadership has such a talent for self-destruction. I don’t understand why they think supporting a president whose approval ratings have been in the toilet forever is “smart”.
I don’t know why they won’t do their jobs and call it good.
I do know that the men and women who are leading this Democratic Party and Congressional Democrats and those that put party loyalty above the safety and well being of Americans have not earned my trust or my loyalty.
They are not listening to the American people and they do not deserve the power and privilege we have given them.
