Congress Loses Its Marbles

In addition to a dismal array of budget busting, unconstitutional, misanthropic, illegal and just plain crazy legislation, your Congress has recently

  • Voted to build a 350-mile fence to guard the 1951-mile long US Mexican Border?

  • Said Amen for to calling up 6000 National Guard to “hone their skills” on the US Mexican border.

  • Voted the ultra wealthy yet another $70,000,000,000 tax break

  • A Senate committee has approved a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage
Yah, yah, yah, the White House is sweating. The polls are disastrous and more disastrous. Even Ken Mehlman is warning the GOP that they stand to lose 30 seats in the upcoming election.
So of course they are trotting out their dog and pony show.

  • Pander to the racists

  • Stuff more money in the pockets of the ultra rich

  • Throw a juicy bone to the “defense” contractors

  • Gut punch the gays <span class="fullpost">

Maybe the Democrats won’t get subpoena power in November.

But why oh why does Congress have to follow this 29% president off the edge of the cliff?
Why are they codifying into law the very policies that are responsible for putting Bush’s and Congressional job ratings in toilet?
Do the Democrats have to follow the opposition down the sewer? Only 18 Democrats voted against the fence? Don’t they want the Hispanic vote either?

Congress is just plain nuts!
Thanks to the worst economic policies to come out of the oval office in nearly a century, we’re broke. The national debt stands at $8,340,571,163,905.91. That’s $27,920.17 tab per citizen; man, woman and child. Every day that goes by the debt increases $1,780,000,000 or about $6 dollars and change per person every single day.

The fact is we are more at risk from our foreign creditors pulling the plug than we are from the influx of illegal aliens or gay marriage.

We are not broke enough?
Congress thinks they have to add another $70,000,000,000 a year to that total? Our congress think the people most in need of that money are the ultra rich.
(The average tax benefit for a wealthy person is somewhere around $30,000 a year and for average folks a whopping $17 a year).

Congress goes off the deep end.
Congress votes to build a monument to racial hatred in the Sonoran desert. Any guesses as to what company will get the no-bid contract to build this monstrosity? Anyone want to put his or her money on Halliburton? They all ready built the emergency immigrant detention centers (who the hell authorized that). It would be a matched set.

Then they say “amen” to taking 6000 (duty rotation would involve 250,000 guardsmen) “horribly over-expensive” National Guard soldiers and post ‘em 1 to a mile, 24-7 along the Rio Bravo del Norte. All this in aid of sending NAFTA impoverished farmers and maquiladores whose jobs have shipped to China back home to starve.

Huh?
Not long ago Bush signed a bill that mandated an increase of 2000 border security guards per year. Since he didn’t fund the mandate, new border security hires topped out at a little over 200 this year.
If we couldn’t afford 1800 new border guards, how does Congress propose to pay for 250,000 horribly over-expensive National Guard?
Because of the over use of the National Guard in Iraq (Rumsfeld’s idea for fighting wars on the cheap) and recruitment shortfalls, the military are warning us that the National Guard is “almost broken”. Is Rumsfeld hard of hearing as well as dangerously befuddled?

It’s those darn terrorists.
This isn’t about terrorism.
If Congress wants to protect the American people from terrorists there are much more pressing issues that are crying out for attention.

  • Harden the chemical and nuclear facilities.

  • Guard our ports and inspect all the cargo.

  • Fix the holes in airport security.

This isn’t about immigration “reform”
We could fix the problem of illegal workers coming in from Mexico in a heartbeat without making America look a giant prison yard.

  • Rework NAFTA so that it isn’t a race to the bottom for both our countries
  • Invest in Mexico
  • Levy hefty fines against businesses that exploit undocumented workers
No, this is about politics. Sleezy, slimy, rotten politics.
It’s about pandering to the fears and bigotry of ignorant Americans. It’s about greasing palms and buying power (graft) and it’s about transforming America into a mirror image of some very sick minds.
Heck of job Congress!
