Losing Sight of the Shore
The mainstream media have been the primary disseminators of the "Madness of King George".
They have gone to extraordinary lengths to push the lunatic agenda of the damaged souls that Bush surrounds himself with.
More than any other force in American life, they are responsible for the creation of a dangerous house of cards that has confounded the nation and is now threatening the media itself.
Watching the Bush administration acting out the dark dreams of their tortured psyches is an increasingly disturbing exercise.Everything that comes out of the mouths and minds of their twisted souls is wildly ironic. Every day that Bush remains in office taxes ones ability to suspend reality.
There is no rhyme or reason to anything. It is impossible to draw a straight line from point A to point B on any issue.
Situational immorality is the grand theme. The driving force is doing the crime while avoiding doing the time.
Bush’s most recent assault on the Constitutional immunity of the press from prosecution is an example of what happens when a nation decides to flirt with governance by raging infant.
“His Petulance” is angry with the press. He thinks they should be subject to prosecution when they catch him with his hand up the skirts of Lady Liberty.
The Bush administration is rife with treasonous boobs and spies who have have to be jailed before they lose their jobs. Bush himself okayed the Plame leak.
He is illegally spying on innocent Americans who have nothing to do with Al Qaida. He and Cheney's crony appointments have politicized and demoralized the intelligence community. That translates into Americans being at increased risk of terrorist attack.
Bush's response to his own criminality and undermining of National Security is to find a way to prosecute reporters who tell us about his dangerous minions and his treasonous self under National Security laws.
Granted reporting about anything that is embarrassing to Bush or his administration is about as scarce as hen’s teeth. However, the press is in a tight spot. Sometimes they cannot help themselves.
The bribe of increased consolidation and the lure of increased profits bought their silence for a while.
As we all know, nature abhors a vacuum and the independent Internet journalists have done an admirable job of filling the void.
Embarrassed by a vital and intelligent blogosphere and activist readers, the press has been forced to print stories they would rather ignore.
When bribery fails, coercion isn’t far behind in lawless land Bush inhabits.

Attacking the press is a blunder of enormous proportions.
Bush owes his presidency to the moribund and boot licking press.
This nation would not have even come close to electing a nasty draft dodging moron who executes criminals for entertainment if the press had done it’s job.
States wouldn’t still be buying corporate owned vote rigging machines or paying corrupt Secretary’s of State if the press had done it’s job.
The Supreme Court would not have been able to disenfranchise American voters if the press had done its job.
They made Bush and they can take him down.
All they have to do is report what they know instead of what the White House tells them they know.
Even the most incurious and well groomed are bound to absorbed something from the cesspool swirling at their feet. They heard something interesting at all those cocktail parties, dinners and barbeques.
It beats the hell out of a cage at Guantanamo.
It wouldn’t take much to drive Bush’s poll numbers into the turf.
Change a couple of adjectives to reflect more accurately on Bush’s demeanor and Bob’s your Uncle…
Instead of charming and folksy we might even see words like confused and belligerent, inept, unconvincing, childish, ignorant etc.
Instead of the “White House believes” we could see the “White House mistakenly believes”.
Instead of reporting how our soldiers are doing all we ask of them in Iraq, they can start reporting on what a dog’s dinner Iraq is and how Bush’s decision to anoint a senile old fart as head of the military is destroying America’s defenses.
Instead of reporting all the flim flam about how dangerous Iran is
they can begin telling the American people and the world how dangerous Bush is.
As usual, Bush doesn’t have a legal leg to stand on.
Not only are the press protected by the Constitution, printing leaked information is not illegal.
However, illegality and the US Constitution have never prevented a rebellious and intellectually challenged Bush from asserting his non existent power.
Nor is there any absence of acolytes who will justify his adolescent chest thumping with extra legal opinions.
Even if the press didn’t have Constitutional protection, publishing leaks is not illegal.
The White House leaks it all the time. They never objected when the press printed their leaks, especially the ones designed to deliberately mislead us.
White House leaks have been frequent and have involved classified information.
The FBI AIPAC probe was severely hampered by a leaky White House.
Outing CIA agents like Valerie Plame is illegal.
Ms. Plame was a WMD expert working on Iran. It’s a treasonous act that provided aid comfort to our enemies.
The people who did the crime, Scooter Libby, Dick Cheney, George Bush and Karl Rove were not weeded out by Bush. He sat idly by while they perjured themselves (another crime).
The mainstream media must decide.
Do want your employees and executives to be dragged through the criminal court system or do you want the criminals in the White House dragged through the criminal court system?
Bush’s mismanagement of the economy and government have resulted in a shrinking economy. Consolidation and a larger slice of a shrinking pie won’t help your bottom line.
Even if Bush did succeed in pushing through more media consolidation, people are still going to be running away from White House/corporate happy talk taking the advertisers with them.
The Democrats just might win this next election, in spite of themselves.
Isn’t it time to hedge your bets?
Is there anywhere in your organizations a smidgeon of independence?
Is there a spark of greatness that has lain dorment?
Is there hidden behind the filing cabinets a tiny seed of the spirit and love of freedom that created this nation?
If you think you can buy your freedom with silence, history is not on your side. Once tyrants begin to throw their weight around, it only get worse and worse until they are finally brought low.
History is on our side when it comes to tyranny. Tyrants always lose.
