Impeachment Talk I think this is a matter of some urgency. Bush may have all ready begun military operations in Iran. The use of "tactical nukes" is being seriously considered. Tactical nukes are 6 times more powerful than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima. Experts believe that up to 3 million people would perish. It is unlikely that Bush will even bother to consult congress. Carol DW
At least Thirty six House members have signed on to Senator Conyer’s H R 635 that would create a select committee to investigate the Bush administrations intent to go to war, intelligence manipulation, countenancing torture and inhumane treatment, and retaliating against critics and to make recommendations regarding impeachment.
HR 636 and 637 would censure Bush and Cheney for failing to provide information regarding allegations that they did all of the above and more.
Over 48% of Americans favor impeachment if Bush lied to us about Iraq. If?
52% favor impeachment if Bush spied on Americans without a warrant. He did.
How many more Americans will support impeachment when the press is forced to cover the allegations and discovery when an impeachment is launched?
Congress has not performed and meaningful oversight in years.
As a result people have begun acting locally.
Towns, villages and cities have passed impeachment resolutions.
There is a new game is afoot.
A little known and never used law allows States Legislatures to launch impeachment inquiries against the president.
Vermont, Illinois, Rhode Island and California have all begun the process.
“Whereas Jefferson's Manual section LIII, 603, states that impeachment may be set in motion by charges transmitted from the legislature of a State;”
The charges submitted by State Legislations would similar to the House Bills.
Doing bad stuff all the time.
In the Seattle area, District Democrats easily passed resolutions calling for the impeachment of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld in the Precinct and District caucuses. It was strictly grassroots. The leadership was silent.
This week is the King County Democrats Convention (the most populous county in the state) and a discussion is raging over what should be done.
Should we attempt to get our legislature to join with other states in drawing up Impeachment Charges?
“Our leaders” and assorted naysayers do not support impeachment at this time.
The legislature isn’t in session.
(Washington has a part time legislature that annually flushes 75% of all legislation deemed worthy because of time constraints.) A special session could be called.
We have to wait until the Democrats control the legislature.
A task we may pass on to the next generation if Democrats don’t fire their overpaid consultants.
We’ll lose the chance to regain the legislature if we talk about impeachment now? Huh?
The Republicans are doing a great job of “impeaching themselves”.
Here’s what I think.
Leaders that attempt to dictate strategy should have a successful track record. Ours don’t or we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
We need legal remedies.
Political strategizing is not an appropriate way to deal with war crimes, ordinary garden variety criminality, probable treason and criminal negligence and malfesance.
Impeachment isn’t a choice;
“The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors”.
The Constitution and rule of law must take precedence over the whims of corrupt power.
We are aware that the GOP don’t want to impeach their own president and lose their privileged position.
We can begin shifting power our way by focusing public attention on their depravity and criminality.
Political change begins when people stand up and are counted. By initiating an impeachment inquiry, we are letting the nation know that Washington State stands for accountable government and the rule of law.
By demanding Congress do its job, we are putting irresistable pressure on Congress. This is expecially true in an election year.
Advocating what voters overwhelmingly support will not cost Democrats votes.
Bush’s ratings are 32% nationwide. It is likely they are even lower here.
Republicans impeaching themselves?
Last I heard they were still waking up in the White House and dominating both houses of congress and every function of government.
In addition to preparing a nuclear attack on Iran they are
Trying to start a race war on our southern borders
Are busy giving the monopolistic telecoms pricing power and veto power over the internet
Shaking down congress for another 91 billion to stuff in their friend’s pockets
Preventing victims of medical malpractice from being fully compensated
Finding more ways for corporate bad actors to use our air and water for a garbage dump.
Militarizing space
Dumping on wounded, ill and disabled veterans of their dirty little wars
Trying to destabilize the governments of Venezuela and Nicaragua
Pushing what remains of New Orleans into the Gulf of Mexico
Continuing their domestic war on the middle class and genocide against the poor
Pushing the remnants of the US economy off the cliff.
Undermining every good, sensible and decent piece of legislation passed in the last century.
