At a press conference today, George Bush took it upon himself to speak for the Iraqi people. Like the manipulated intelligence he used to justify invading their country, his comments were astonishingly callous, inaccurate and designed to manipulate the American people.
President Bush,
I don't know where you get your information from, but your recent statement about how the Iraqis feel about what is happening in their country is highly inaccurate.
The only people willing to tolerate the violence in Iraq are certain members of your administration.
Over 90% of Iraqis aren't willing to tolerate it; especially violence that is fed by bad policy, decisions to train and arm private armies and a culturally insensitive and increasingly hard pressed and unwelcome military occupation.
According to recent newspaper articles you are upset and feeling betrayed by members of your administration because things are not going well. That's perfectly understandable.
However, as president, don't you have a responsibility to make certain that those you appoint have are both truthful and competent?
It seems to me it's time to make some changes.
You should begin with following the advice of so many by replacing Donald Rumsfeld, who is the author of so much that has gone wrong in Iraq.
Then Dick Cheney should be asked to step down. Besides you, he has given bad advice to three other presidents. His input on the Iraq war has been disastrous. He has damaged our nation and blighted your presidency.
Next I would suggest you ask Karl Rove to leave. Because of his methods, he always gets into trouble sooner or later. You will be tarred with the same brush.
Asking you to say cruelly nonsensical things like the Iraqis don't mind having their country torn apart and their friends and families murdered shows he has either lost touch with reality or doesn't have your best interests at heart.
If the Iraqis were tolerating either the US presence or the ceaseless violence, I doubt very much they would have killed nearly 3000 of our soldiers and wounded more than 20,000 others.
It is upsetting for Americans to hear their leaders wander so far afield in perilous times.
It makes them feel very insecure.
Sincerely,
CarolDW
