Obama's rhetoric is starting to sound more like his campaign. But rhetoric isn't reform.
PRESIDENT OBAMA,
Thank you for pausing to think before committing more troops to your atrocity in Afghanistan. One only wishes you had done that before all those soldiers were murdered and the country sank even deeper into chaos.
You said you were searching for a solution that would be successful before "committing more resources". Have you consulted any of the the people that warned you that there is no military solution? Did you have to let General McChrystal kill all those Afghans before coming to the same conclusion? Are you going to continue killing them if they won't submit to US domination?
Pelosi is correct, there is no public support for this war. A man of your intelligence should be able to see when he is walking off a cliff and to turn away. A successful stategy would be to withdraw all troops and replace with an international force to provide security while we help the Afghans rebuild their country. That would put the Taliban out of business faster than any gunship. A successful strategy would be to stop supporting corrupt puppet governments and allow the Afghans to choose a popular leader. A successful strategy would be for this country to keep it promises to the Afghan people.
